Biography




Biography

Žaklina Nježić Popović completed her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Montenegro. During the studies, she received awards from the Podgorica Municipality and the University of Montenegro for best student of the year.

She completed her masters studies at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, at the Department of Public Building Design, earning a Masters degree in Architectural Engineering. In 2021, she enrolled in doctoral studies at the same department within the Doctoral School of Architecture. Concurrently, she worked as a teaching assistant for undergraduate and master’s courses for international students, where, in addition to organizing lessons, she participated in arranging student exhibitions, lectures, and presentations. At the seminar at ETSAM University in Madrid, organized as part of the EELISA consortium she was a mentor to architecture students.

In her scientific and research work, she publishes academic papers and articles in national and international journals and forums, with a focus on public buildings, public spaces, and their social aspects, particularly in the context of Montenegro. 

She gained practical experience during and after her studies by working in architectural firms in Montenegro and Hungary. She was involved in major projects for the reconstruction of historically significant buildings, as well as in the development of the largest film studio complex of the National Film Institute in Hungary.

She has participated in numerous architectural workshops, competitions, and exhibitions both in Montenegro and abroad, including EASA – the largest European workshop for architecture students, and EBEC – an engineering competition at the regional level.

Her active participation in national and international architectural and urban planning competitions for public buildings in areas of education, sports, healthcare, and administration has led to seven awarded projects. Notable awards include first place for the project of the Elementary school in City Kvart and the Golootočkih žrtava square project in Podgorica, for which she also received the “Božidar Milić” Architecture Award in the student category.

Research interest: public buildings, public spaces, socio-spatial relations in architecture.
