Enhancing Digital Accessibility through the HAWKING Project – Accessibility Tool Implemented for a More Inclusive Web Environment

Within the Erasmus+ CBHE project “Harvesting (digital) Alternation in Ways that Knock-down Inaccessibility of New Generations – HAWKING”, a customized Accessibility Tool for the website was successfully developed, implemented, and activated, with the aim of improving the accessibility of digital content for all users, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities.

The project was implemented in accordance with modern principles of digital accessibility and user experience, with a special focus on enabling easier use of web content for persons with visual impairments, dyslexia, concentration difficulties, vestibular disorders, as well as users who require additional visual adjustments while browsing content.

The implemented tool provides a wide range of functionalities for adapting the website display to the individual needs of users. Key features include:

·        ·         the ability to hide images in order to reduce distractions and improve loading speed

         ·     disabling animations and automatic visual effects,

       ·         displaying important navigation links for easier orientation,

       ·         high, low, and dark contrast modes,

       ·         font size adjustment,

       ·         the use of a dyslexia-friendly font,

       ·         adjustment of spacing between letters and words for better readability,

       ·         a focused reading mode when selecting text,

       ·         as well as text alignment controls according to user preferences.

One of the greatest advantages of the system is its flexibility and ease of use. All functionalities are available through an intuitive toolbar present on every page of the website, allowing users to instantly activate desired options without the need for additional technical knowledge or installations. In this way, a personalized user experience and greater user independence in accessing information are ensured.

Through the implementation of this activity, the accessibility and inclusiveness of the website have been significantly improved, making the content available to a wider range of users. Furthermore, the implementation of such a solution contributes to compliance with international standards and recommendations in the field of web accessibility, such as the WCAG guidelines, representing an important step toward the modernization and professionalization of the organization’s digital presence.

In addition to improving user experience, the project also contributes to strengthening the organization’s social responsibility by demonstrating a commitment to equal access to information and digital inclusion for all categories of users. The implemented solution represents a long-term sustainable and scalable platform that enables further development of functionalities in line with future needs and technological standards.
