Rector Nikolić: Number of Applied Students in First Enrolment Term Higher for Eight Percent Compared to the Last Year, 822 Vacancies for the Second Term

Number of registered students for enrollment in the first year of undergraduate studies at the University of Montenegro for the academic year 2020/2021. it is higher by eight percent in relation to the number of registered students last year, the Rector of the University of Montenegro, Danilo Nikolić, PhD, said at today's press conference and said that this is most likely the result of the current epidemiological situation, but also the growing trend of interest in certain study programs.

"The greatest interest was in the Faculty of Economics, where 489 electronic applications were received for 390 places announced by the competition. Then, for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, where 330 places were planned through the competition, and 443 students applied, and for the Faculty of Medicine, where 415 applications were received for 205 planned places ", Nikolić said.

The number of enrolled students in the first enrollment period is 2,684, while for the second enrollment period in the Competition for enrollment of students in the first year of undergraduate studies at the University of Montenegro for the study year 2020/21, a total of 822 places in 14 organizational units.

Vice Rector for Teaching at the University of MontenegroĐurđica Perović, PhD, pointed out that the University of Montenegro, as a socially responsible institution, for the first time organized electronic application for enrollment in the first year of study, creating a unique software and platform for electronic application and submission of documents.

"Today, a competition was announced for the second enrollment deadline, for which candidates will also apply, exclusively electronically, and which will end on July 25. Candidates have shown great interest in enrolling in study programs at the University of Montenegro. We have a significant increase in registered students in the first enrollment period in more than 20 study programs. The services at the University of Montenegro have made a great effort to send the enrollment, considering the health circumstances and the announced number of vacancies of 3506, " Vice Rector Perović said.

Rector Nikolić also referred to results of the University of Montenegro during the previous three years, according to which significant progress has been made in the field of strengthening competitiveness, increasing international visibility and comparability within the European Higher Education Area and the European Research Area. Development of the University of Montenegro, for the period 2019 - 2024.

The University of Montenegro has participated in 36 international projects. "Value of the obtained projects inprevious year is over 3.3 million euros. Having in mind that in 2017, this income was only 430,000 euros, we can conclude that we have increased the income from project activities by over seven times in 2 years ", Nikolić stated.

"When it comes to science and research, achievements of researchers from the University of Montenegro, valorized through the number of citations on Google Scholar, are seven times higher than in 2017. Last year, for the first time, the University of Montenegro was included among the 1300 best universities in the world according to the renowned Times Higher Education ranking, and according to the latest ranking from June this year, the University of Montenegro is ranked in the category of 400 best young universities under 50. Also, the University has been identified and internationally recognized as a promoter of a stimulating and attractive working environment for researchers by awarding the logo of Excellence in Human Resources in Research by the European Commission ", Rector Nikolić said.

The University responsibly works on strengthening infrastructural, personnel and financial capacities of the University, so that the employees and students have the best possible working conditions and achieve the best possible results. "In the previous three years, with the amendments to the Collective Agreement, we have provided an increase in salaries for all employees of nine percent, and another three percent is planned for next year. We have formed the Housing Fund from own funds in the amount of 2 million euros. funds, through which we invest in the modernization of university infrastructure, digitalization of the teaching process, improvement of teaching and research equipment, library stock and scientific bases. In the previous two years, on this basis, over 1.5 million were invested. euros, "Nikolic stressed.

In order to encourage the study of issues of importance for the development of Montenegrin society, science and culture, i.e.to promote the identity and authentic values ​​of Montenegrin society and state, the University has started a series of social dialogues, scientific forums and round tables called Montenegro 2030.

"In the field of strengthening cooperation with domestic business partners, I would especially like to emphasize that in cooperation with the Government of Montenegro we have established the first Science and Technology Park, a place where we will mobilize innovative and entrepreneurial capacities of academia and business sector" ', Nikolić added and concluded that the University will continue to make efforts to serve Montenegrin society and to maximize opportunities for its employees and students.
