Born August 21st 1961 (Foca, Bosnia and Herzegovina)

 

EDUCATION AND ACADEMIC RANKS:

 

Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (February 14th, 1985) with a GPA of 9.33. Completed the general surgery residency at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade on December 4th, 1992 with an excellent grade. Enrolled in the postgraduate studies of the digestive system in the school year 1994/95 at the same Faculty, with an excellent grade (A) in the oral master exam. The master thesis »A comparative analysis of the treatment modalities and outcomes of wartime and peacetime colon injuries« defended on January 27th, 2003 in Belgrade. Enrolled at the subspecialization of digestive surgery in 2001, with an excellent grade (A) in the oral exam taken June 12th, 2003. The subspecialty thesis »The place of enterostomy in the treatment of colon injuries« defended on April 28th, 2004 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade. The doctoral thesis »The advantage and disadvantage of one-stage and two-stage methods in the treatment of colon injuries« was approved in January 2005 in Belgrade, with the thesis defended on May 15th, 2006 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade.

Elected as Docent of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Montenegro on August 30th, 2007. Elected as Associate professor of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Montenegro on October 1st, 2012. Elected as Full professor on July 5th, 2017 at the same Faculty.

-       Introduced microwave ablation of cancer metastases to the liver (first time in the region together with Croatia), performed in the Clinical center of Montenegro on December 17th, 2019

-       Introduced cytoreductive surgery and hypertermic intraoperative chemotherapy for extensive malignant tumors of the abdomen in the Clinical center of Montenegro (performed only in certain European centres) (performed first on December 20th, 2019)

-       Leader of the Project ”Portraits of Montenegrin doctors – an addition to the history of Montenegrin medicine” – under the Montenegrin academy of sciences and arts

-       Member of the Project ”COVID-19 – the case of Montenegro” – under the Montenegrin academy of sciences and arts (Project Leader Professor Vaso Antunovic)

-       Authored and co-authored 52 scientific papers in internationally indexed journals

-      Participated in multiple scientific symposia organized by the Montenegrin academy of sciences and arts

-      Chief of the Healthcare crisis response team for organizing the healthcare system of Montenegro for COVID-19 pandemic (as of March 25th, 2020 until September 2020)

- 2020: Received the 13th July Award for achieved results in the field of digestive surgery in 2019
