Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021-2027

In 2023 the European Commission awarded to the University of Montenegro the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021-2027. Award of the charter opens to the University of Montenegro numerous additional opportunities for participating in a large number of international projects, in which the teaching and scientific research process will receive significant support for further development and improvement.

On the basis of this charter, the European Commission grants higher education institutions from program countries accreditation with which they can apply and participate in Erasmus+ program projects. From December 2022, this possibility was also open to the universities of the Western Balkans.

The Charter represents recognition to the University of Montenegro for the quality of European and international cooperation and at the same time obliges the University to respect the basic principles of the Erasmus+ program. These principles include equality, transparency, and harmonization of education standards with those of EU universities. The University undertakes to continue providing incentives to members of the academic community to engage in international cooperation, either through mobility programmes or the implementation of international projects, and to continuously work on improving the conditions for student and staff mobility following the model of developed European universities. Also, in accordance with the priorities of the Erasmus+ program for the period 2021-2027 UoM undertakes to encourage participation in mobility programs for students from vulnerable groups, to encourage activities that contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development, to work on further digitization of processes and on the realization of the Erasmus Student Card initiative, and to create conditions for the introduction and promotion of the Erasmus mobile application (Erasmus+ mobile App) for students of the University of Montenegro.

The University of Montenegro (UoM) is dominantly dedicated to politics and the idea of internationalization. The Charter is the result of UoMs continuous efforts to provide attractive conditions for scientific and artistic work, both for its employees and for foreign researchers, through the creation of quality predispositions for short-term or long-term periods of incoming and outgoing mobility. The goal is to attract as many foreign students as possible, through academic openness and the offer of subjects and study programmes in English.

Activities in the field of internationalization are also aimed at strengthening existing and building new partnerships with renowned higher education institutions from the region and Europe, based on the establishment of joint study programmes at all study levels, on the preparation and implementation of joint research and structural projects.
