Vice Rector Mićanović Speaks about the Award of the University of Montenegro for Best Training and Education Institution

The University of Montenegro has been proclaimed for best institution for education and training in 2024 by the Association of Managers of Montenegro. On this occasion, the University Vice Rector for Teaching, Veselin Mićanović, PhD, had appearance on the 60 Minutes show on TV Prva.

Mićanović emphasized that this recognition is confirmation of the Universitys so far achievements, but also an obligation to keep improving educational system. The University of Montenegro is the largest educational and scientific institution in the country, with 19 organizational units and four institutes. The continuous improvement of studying conditions has been acknowledged through this award.

Speaking about the University’s position in the regional and European context, Mićanović pointed out that UMNE is among the leading institutions in the region. Its international reputation is confirmed by its membership in the prestigious European University Ulysseus, where, alongside renowned European universities, our University is the only one from a non-EU country. Other members of the network include the University of Seville, the University of Genoa, the University of the Côte dAzur, the University of Münster, the Technical University of Košice, the Management Centre Innsbruck, and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.

This, he emphasizes, confirms the high quality at the University of Montenegro and its seriousness in both scientific and teaching activities.

Regarding university rankings, Mićanović stresses the importance of considering various influential factors. UMNE, as an institution in a country with a small population and around 500 academic staff, faces challenges when compared to universities with significantly larger academic staff. However, despite these circumstances, the University is continuously improving its status and strengthening its position.

Additionally, the third call for doctoral study scholarships abroad has been announced, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the academic community. UMNE also offers doctoral programs, with recognized diplomas and a significant number of successful candidates. Interest in doctoral studies is growing, and the University of Montenegro offers accredited programs across all its organizational units. The calls for applications are made in the fall and are quickly filled.

Mićanović also highlighted that the University has launched an initiative to improve housing conditions for employees, specifically those who have somewhat resolved housing issues but are living in inadequate conditions. This initiative allows both academic and non-teaching staff to apply, with around 825,000 euros allocated for this purpose. The housing assistance competition will soon close, with the goal of helping at least half of those interested, although it will not be possible to accommodate all applicants.

In response to the journalists comment that the University of Montenegro often sends out press releases and praises for its employees, Mićanović stated that the University maintains a healthy policy of recognizing quality staff. Every year, the best employees from all organizational units are proposed for their exceptional results in research, and these proposals are carefully considered and rewarded at the university level.

Mićanović concluded by saying that awards are very important as they highlight individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to scientific and research activities. They serve as a good example of recognizing their work and help strengthen the position of the University.
