At the University of Montenegro in Podgorica, a two-day initial meeting of the second, four-year phase of the European University Ulysseus project was held. The Ulysseus European University consortium includes the University of Seville, the University of the Côte dAzur in Nice, the University of Genoa, the Technical University of Košice, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, MCI Innsbruck, while the University of Münster and the University of Montenegro have joined as new members, expanding the existing network of six partners involved in the previous phase.

The meeting was attended by four rectors and four vice-rectors of partner universities, who opened and closed the meetings with motivational messages, emphasizing the creation of a strong and friendly university community that can achieve much more together than individually, relying on diversity as a wealth. The rectors emphasized that Ulysseus is no longer just a project but a "European University." About 100 members of the European Universitys governance structure also participated in the meetings, while over 60 members followed the meetings online.

The initial meeting provided an opportunity to highlight everything that has been done so far in establishing this European University, one of the 50 currently active alliances connecting 430 higher education institutions across Europe in a strong partnership. During the past period, work has been done to create physical and digital tools to ensure the smooth functioning of the university in providing educational programs, student and faculty mobility, collaboration on research and innovation. Guidelines for program creation, defined areas of common potential for collaboration, and specific roles of individual universities through the establishment of Innovation Hubs have been established. Dozens of new Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe joint projects have been obtained, and new project proposals are also in preparation. The Center for Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Research at the University of Montenegro, for example, is participating in the creation of a joint masters program with partner universities in the field of agriculture and food.

During the meetings, discussions took place on the principles of collaboration with the wider community - partners from government, industry, and civil society, as one of the goals of the European University is a more engaged relationship with the community and a contribution to territorial regional development.

Ulysseus partners held an information session for the academic community of the University of Montenegro during the initial meeting to highlight the opening of a new chapter in collaboration with partners in Europe through strengthening the Ulysseus European University. In this regard, the Rectorate of the University of Montenegro is establishing a support team to facilitate collaboration within Ulysseus.

European Universities are a leading initiative of the European Unions university strategy and are funded through the EU Erasmus+ program.
