The resignation of full prof. Duško Bjelica, PhD, to the position of Head of the Steering Committee of the University of Montenegro:

Full prof. Duško Bjelica, PhD, at the University of Montenegro resigned on January 21 from the position oh Head of Steering Committee of the University of Montenegro, so he will be in future member of the Steering Committee of the University of Montenegro.

In his resignation, which he has announced today, in his address to the members of the Management Board of the University of Montenegro, Professor Bjelica has stated the following:

To whom it may concerns,

There are rare occasions when a person suppresses his emotions and even rarer when he suppresses his thoughts – unfortunately, this happens just when his spiritual experience of the environment overpowers all that the ordinary human senses most often perceive even as a state of fully established order and harmony.

Right now, my view is somewhere outside of us, somewhere where loudness overpowers academic peace, where there is no answer to the question of either “what is wanted” much less “what is possible”.

Working on the principle that every man is “obliged to plant a tree under its canopy of which he will never enjoy the shade” I have not hoped to experience that this “tree” – the University of Montenegro, very quickly branch out in thousands of square meters of space for teaching and scientific activity, as well as the one that will “protect” keep the standard of students and employees – reliable builders of the future of Montenegro.

Such a “tree” with its vitality, primarily with its quality of research activity and stability in financing its mission at all levels of studies, was noticed, very quickly, by international scientific public as well as ours – the domestic ones. While the foreign public would recognize and help the quality of our constant development, the University of Montenegro, as one of the most important but also the most sensitive part of the Montenegrin society, has been building the support of the mentioned progress and the harmonization of goals and mutual trust of all society structures (science, culture, economy, politics…).

Appreciating that the much-needed cooperation of important factors in the higher education system of Montenegro has been disrupted lately, and wishing success in the further progress of our university - that it is accompanied by the full support of state bodies, I resign from the position of head of the Steering Committee of the University of Montenegro.

I do this at a time when the University of Montenegro is the best positioned since its founding, when it has 15 million euros in its account from its own funds, when I am among the best scientist in the world in my field and when I am at the top of the university pyramid in international recognition.

Of course, I am doing that today, on the day when I have prepared all the materials on all items on the Agenda and when I have scheduled a regular session of the Steering Committee for January 27 at 1 p.m.

I also believe that the coming days in the run-up to this session will reveal many faces, which is why I prepared this resignation in secret in order to remember as much as possible those who were in previous years and decades. To still remember them like that.
