Promoting STEM Fields among High School Students through the ESN-AIR Project

Within the ESN-AIR project “Engaging Students for eNhancing internationalization practices in the Adriatic-Ionian Region”, an informational session titled “Workshop on STEM Subjects” was held. The workshop was organized as part of the promotion of the Open Day of the University of Montenegro, which took place on March 4, 2026, at the Medical Secondary School in Podgorica.

The session was led by Dr. Aleksandra Gezović Miljanić, Teaching Associate at the Faculty of Technology of the University of Montenegro, who spoke about the importance of STEM fields for high school students and their significance for future academic and professional development. The session was also attended by Ana Zdravkov, Associate at the Centre for International Cooperation and Career Development.

One of the key objectives of the ESN-AIR project is to promote the importance of STEM subjects in secondary education, with a particular focus on encouraging greater participation of girls, who remain underrepresented in these fields.

During the session, students were introduced to the importance of STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as well as the numerous opportunities these fields offer for further academic development and career advancement. A special segment of the session was dedicated to presenting international educational programmes, such as Erasmus+, which provide opportunities for further development in STEM fields through student exchanges, scholarships, and participation in international projects.

The session was attended by 27 students, who actively participated in the discussion and showed great interest in topics related to education and career opportunities in STEM fields.

The workshop represents an important step in promoting STEM disciplines among high school students, as well as encouraging more female students to consider careers in science, technology, and innovation. Initiatives such as this not only help students gain new knowledge but also enable them to recognize their potential and role in the future development of science and technology.
