CI at UCG to hold “Chinese Culture Day” in Herceg Novi

Local time on May 26th, Confucius Institute at University of Montenegro held “Chinese Culture Day” in Herceg Novi, a famous seashore city in Montenegro. Hundreds of residents, tourists, local Chinese businessmen together with Chinese learners and Chinese teachers in CI at UCG participated in the event.
    The cultural festival activities took place in the famous local restaurant “Gradska Kafana”, which mainly showed the elements of Chinese traditional culture and guided local people to enjoy the charm of Chinese culture. To create a scene with Chinese flavor, all the teachers and students in CI arranged for the site five hours before. The indoor rooms are filled with lanterns and Chinese knots, the paper-cuts for window decoration, and Chinese calligraphy works and paintings. The display of traditional appliances such as Gu Zheng, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese paper cutting, Peking Opera facial makeup pattern, and paper fan also created a strong cultural atmosphere.

At 2:30 in the afternoon, the activity officially began. The wonderful Taiji performances given by the Taiji Culture Club in Montenegro attracted a large number of tourists and residents who are interested in Chinese culture.

The cultural festival units on the event were also colorful including Chinese language speaking, Chinese calligraphy writing, facial makeup painting, Chinese paper cuts making, chopsticks trying, drinking tea, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment. In addition, the Han clothing and Tang suit which made you feel “going back to the Han and Tang Dynasties” attracted many people’s attention becoming a highlight of the activities in that day.

Professor Huang Shouen from Changsha University of Science and Technology was invited to share the knowledge of Chinese tea culture and display tea art. While listening to the Chinese tea culture knowledge, the guests tasted different kinds of Chinese tea under the guidance of Professor Huang. And Chinese tea was highly praised by local people.

What’s more, we also invited director Zhang and Dr. Qian of Kina Medika in Montenegro to carry out the sharing of traditional Chinese medicine. Director Zhang answered patiently the questions posed by local people. And Dr. Qian made free treatment for the guests with tradition Chinese medicine.

 “Chinese Culture day” was strongly supported by the local culture bureau (Herceg Fest). Tamara Vujovic, an assistant of the mayor and local Councilor in Herceg Novi, also went to the scene to experience the Chinese culture, and made further negotiation with Luo Chun Xia, Chinese director of CI at UCG on culture, sports, economy, infrastructure and other aspects.

All in all, “Chinese Culture Day” has been warmly welcomed and praised by the local people. By experiencing the traditional Chinese culture, local people are accessible to the charm of Chinese culture. It is of great significance to enhance the mutual integration of the culture of China and Montenegro and to promote long-term development of the friendship between the two countries.
